“At Zorlu Enerji, we contribute not only to today’s resources, but also to the assets and the right to life of future generations.”

We are not waiting for the future to arrive; we are building it together. At Zorlu Enerji, we have set out to make this future restorative, inclusive, and innovative through our business model and value chain. We know that our success is no longer measured solely by growth figures; it is measured by our relationship with nature, the connections we build with people, and the impact of the transformation we create. That is why we are not only managing today’s resources, but also working to safeguard the right to life of future generations.

We bring this approach to life through three value areas:

Our horizon is to be a company that benefits both nature and society. To achieve this goal, we draw on the possibilities offered by science, technology, and human relationships, embrace different perspectives, and work to remain a company that continues to create value in the future. Through our steps to repair nature, embrace people, and transform the system, we are moving towards a fairer, more resilient, and more livable future. Because we believe that the future is a set of values that we build together, starting today.

Our Value Areas

Regenerate

The environmental sustainability issues we face today are a result of our departure from nature's cycles. For us, contributing to the regeneration of the planet's cyclical processes means taking on the responsibility of building the future today. To eliminate the environmental impacts arising from our energy production, we focus on regenerative operations and circular economy models; we aim to create a measurable and positive impact in the areas of climate, water, and biodiversity.

Embrace

Embracing means bringing not only our colleagues but also all individuals and communities within our sphere of influence into our processes. With this belief, we are building safe and equitable structures that embrace diversity, both within our own organization and across our value chain. We consider it our priority to create value for everyone, from our workforce to the people in our value chain and the communities we impact.

Transform

The future is not unpredictable; it can be built. Therefore, transformation is not merely an outcome for us, but an integral part of our long-term strategy. We are making our business practices, investment decisions, and value creation model future-ready along the axis of digitalization, innovation, and sustainable growth, aiming to be a source of inspiration in the sector's transformation journey.

Our Priorities

Restorative Operations and Value Chain

Restorative Operations and Value Chain

Climate Change — We are increasing our renewable energy capacity and energy efficiency, and decarbonizing our operations by investing in business models with a low carbon footprint. By evaluating climate risks and integrating them into our strategic decision-making processes, we adopt a way of doing business that prioritizes climate resilience.

Water and Marine Resources — We are aware that reducing our water footprint is critical in a geography where water stress is increasing. We invest in technologies that enhance water efficiency, redesign our processes, and commit to reducing our water usage per unit of energy produced every year.

Biodiversity and Ecosystems — We do not merely offset our impact; we are transforming on the path to restorative action. Through our afforestation and species protection efforts, we contribute to the restoration of the ecosystem and aim to be a company that creates a net positive impact on nature.

Impact-Driven Growth

Impact-Driven Growth

Workforce — We adopt a healthy and safe working environment as a fundamental principle and strive to establish a zero-accident culture. To overcome the structural barriers to women's access to leadership positions, we aim for inclusion across different seniority levels and view meaningful cultural transformation as the leverage point of our equality and inclusivity approach.

Workers in the Value Chain — We adopt the same principles throughout our supply chain. Transformation within the supply chain means a systematic improvement in human rights, occupational safety, and ethical business practices, in addition to mitigating environmental and social risks. We prioritize learning together with our suppliers.

Affected Communities — We maintain our commitment to society not merely through social responsibility, but with a strategic investment approach. We aim to create a measurable impact in the areas of access to energy, education, gender equality, and youth employment.

People and Culture

People and Culture

Business Practices — In addition to evaluating our sustainability performance through certified management systems, we present it transparently on international ESG performance evaluation platforms, offering an accountable structure to our investors and stakeholders.

Innovation and Technology— We integrate digital transformation and artificial intelligence trends into our business practices; we respond to the changing needs of the world with an expanding portfolio ranging from smart grids to storage technologies, and from electric vehicle infrastructure to micro-grid systems.

Sustainable Growth — We evaluate our investments not only based on their financial returns but also on their compliance with the green taxonomy; we prioritize projects that meet environmental sustainability criteria, are climate-aligned, and contribute to the circular economy.

How Do We Manage Sustainability?

The starting point of our sustainability strategy is the double materiality assessment we conducted in alignment with the ESRS. In this study, we sought to answer two questions: What impact do our activities have on people and the environment, and how do sustainability issues affect Zorlu Enerji financially? By bringing together stakeholder views with risk and opportunity analyses, we identified our priorities. We regularly review and update our Double Materiality Assessment on an annual basis.

We have grouped our priority matters under three interconnected value areas: “Regenerate,” which focuses on regenerating our impact on nature; “Embrace,” which encompasses our employees and the communities in which we operate; and “Transform,” which transforms the way we do business and our growth model. We have defined measurable, time-bound targets for each matter; we monitor progress annually and assess every new investment decision in terms of its impact on these targets.

To put the strategy into practice, we established a governance structure reporting to the Board of Directors. The Sustainability Committee, chaired by an independent Board member, ensures ownership of the strategy at the highest level, from setting targets through to monitoring them; the CEO’s membership of the Committee establishes a direct link between decisions and implementation. Our Sustainability Working Groups, established for each value area, implement the strategy on the ground under the leadership of a senior executive and regularly report their work to the Committee.
