Using energy efficiently not only helps reduce utility bills but also contributes to decreasing Turkey’s overall energy demand. Highlighting that inefficient energy use accelerates the depletion of natural resources, increases environmental pollution, and contributes to global warming, Zorlu Enerji Osmangazi Electricity Retail has shared practical energy-saving tips for homes and workplaces as part of Energy Efficiency Week, celebrated between January 6–12 this year.
Nearly one-third of Turkey’s total energy consumption occurs in residential, commercial, and public buildings. Improving energy efficiency in these areas not only lowers costs but also eases the country's energy burden. Operating in Afyonkarahisar, Bilecik, Eskişehir, Kütahya, and Uşak, Zorlu Enerji Osmangazi Electricity Retail provides electricity subscription services, sales, billing, and collection. In observance of Energy Efficiency Week — celebrated annually in the second week of January — the company offers suggestions to help reduce energy consumption in households and workplaces.

5 Tips to Improve Energy Efficiency at Home

Save energy with proper insulation:

Reinforce your building’s insulation. Double-glazed windows and wall insulation significantly reduce heat loss and lower heating costs. Be sure to insulate pipes and hot water tanks as well.

2. Choose energy-efficient appliances:

When purchasing new electronic devices, opt for high energy-efficiency class models (A or higher). These consume less electricity and offer long-term cost savings.

3. Utilize solar energy and natural light:

Switch to solar water heating systems for a more sustainable and budget-friendly solution. Maximize daylight by avoiding thick curtains during the day and painting walls in lighter colors. Use high-efficiency lighting fixtures whenever possible.

4. Use heat effectively:

Ensure that radiators are not blocked by furniture or curtains so that heat circulates evenly. Remember to ventilate your home during winter, but reduce the thermostat setting while doing so to prevent energy loss. Keep unused rooms at a lower temperature. A well-functioning combi boiler can also contribute to electricity savings.

5. Review small appliance usage:

Each small appliance operates differently, so assess each one separately for savings. For example, clean your vacuum cleaner’s bag and filter regularly to ensure lower energy use. Only fill your kettle or tea maker with as much water as you need. Unplug irons, televisions, and chargers when not in use to prevent unnecessary power consumption.

5 Tips to Improve Energy Efficiency at the Workplace

Use energy-efficient office equipment:

Choose electronics with high energy efficiency ratings. Activate energy-saving modes on printers and copiers, and ensure they are completely switched off when not in use.

2. Properly regulate heating and cooling systems:

Adjust office temperatures seasonally and keep them stable under normal weather conditions. Install air conditioners in shaded areas away from direct sunlight.

3. Optimize lighting:

Segment lighting in large spaces so only occupied areas are lit. Position workspaces near windows to maximize daylight and use energy-efficient LED lights.

4. Use timers and sensor-based systems:

Control heating, cooling, and lighting systems with timers. Motion-sensor lighting helps prevent unnecessary energy consumption in unoccupied rooms.

5. Schedule regular maintenance:

Maintain air conditioners, generators, and other energy-consuming devices regularly to improve their efficiency. Dirt and wear reduce performance and lead to higher energy consumption.
