As part of the project’s pilot implementation carried out in cooperation with the Provincial Directorate of National Education, volunteers from Zorlu Enerji’s corporate volunteering program Kıvılcımlar Hareketi engaged with students at two schools in Eskişehir through an interactive reading session of the Wind Energy children’s book. The project, which will continue in Eskişehir for four weeks, aims to reach approximately 1,000 students across five provinces where the company operates.

Zorlu Enerji Osmangazi Elektrik Perakende, which manages electricity subscription processes, sales, billing and collection operations in Afyonkarahisar, Bilecik, Eskişehir, Kütahya and Uşak, continues to support social projects that contribute to the development of the communities it serves. To help children develop early awareness of renewable energy resources and the responsible use of energy, the company launched its social responsibility initiative Energy for Children (EÇİ).

Renewable energy has been made fun and engaging

Under the framework of Kıvılcımlar Hareketi, the company runs various community and environmental projects. As part of EÇİ (Our Energy for Children), five illustrated books—Wind Energy, Solar Energy, Geothermal Energy, Hydropower and Carbon Footprint—were published, written by children’s book authors and developed in collaboration with experts to explain energy resources in an engaging and accessible way. Volunteers participating in the program received training on interactive reading techniques to prepare for in-class activities.

More Than 400 Students to Be Reached in Eskişehir

The pilot phase of the project began at 23 Nisan Primary School and Yarbay Mehmet Yaşar Gülle Primary School in collaboration with the Eskişehir Provincial Directorate of National Education. The first event held at 23 Nisan Primary School was attended by Eskişehir Deputy Governor Osman Nuri Canatan, Eskişehir Deputy Provincial Director of National Education Ali Türkal, Zorlu Enerji Osmangazi Elektrik Perakende Director Tamer Akaslan and the school administration.

Designed for 2nd and 3rd grade students, the activities aim to reach more than 400 students at the two schools. On the first day of the four-week program, volunteer employees read the first of the five books, Wind Energy, using the interactive reading method. Following the reading session, a pinwheel workshop was held to help reinforce what the students learned. At the end of the event, all five books were gifted to the students.

The project will be expanded to other provinces

Following Eskişehir, EÇİ (Our Energy for Children) will also be implemented in Afyonkarahisar, Bilecik, Kütahya and Uşak—the other provinces where the company operates. With this expansion, the project aims to reach approximately 1,000 students in total.

Tamer Akaslan: “The Momentum of Renewable Energy Will Grow with Social Awareness”

Tamer Akaslan, Director of Zorlu Enerji Osmangazi Elektrik Perakende, stated:

“Renewable energy—one of the essential conditions for a sustainable future—will gain momentum and become a lasting solution only through increased social awareness alongside technological investments. Believing that this awareness should be cultivated from an early age, we developed a special project for primary school students. Seeing the enthusiasm and curiosity in the children’s eyes during our Eskişehir event showed us once again why this project is so important. Every child who learns to use energy responsibly at a young age will help build a more conscious society in the future. We would like to thank the Eskişehir Governorship, the Eskişehir Provincial Directorate of National Education and the schools participating in our pilot implementation for their support.”

Akaslan also noted that EÇİ (Our Energy for Children) was first launched in 2009 by Zorlu Enerji, under which Osmangazi Elektrik Perakende operates, and that the children’s books prepared for the project were recently updated using an upcycling approach.
