Zorlu Enerji breaks grounds in geothermal energy in the world

Zorlu Enerji is the leader in Turkey in the field of geothermal energy and got the right to receive funding in the scope of the Horizon 2020 Framework Program, the EU’s largest research and innovation program that will be implemented between 2014 and 2020.

Zorlu Enerji has made a history as the third company receiving funding in the sector in the scope of the project, and it will focus on conducting more continuous and spontaneous analysis of geothermal fluid by developing methods to be implemented for the first time in the world and in the sector with the new project entitled GeoPro.

Zorlu Enerji is joining a new research project that will carry the features of being a sectoral reference company to whole world. Zorlu Enerji has gained one more funding it previously received in the Horizon 2020 Program, the European Union’s largest research and innovation program that will be implemented between 2014 and 2020, and it continues to work on “constantly monitoring the characteristics of geothermal fluid and throughout the duration of the operation”, which will be implemented for the first time in the world and in the sector.

This method has previously been implemented only in the petroleum sector, and it will be the first in the world for the sector with its application at Zorlu Enerji’s geothermal power stations. Thanks to the planned method, the characteristics of the geothermal fluid will be monitored instantaneously with software and models, starting from the reservoir and going all the way until the processing stage and will be considered classic in this sense. Time will be saved and efficiency will be increased by integrating a portion of the time-consuming laboratory applications into technology.

European Consortium

While working as a partner to seven private companies, four universities, and one institute from Europe, Zorlu Enerji will use its power plants and receive approximately €350,000 in the first stage for the Program, for which there is a total budget of €5 million.

It is becoming an “consultant” to the geothermal sector

Zorlu Enerji has received funding from the EU in three different areas regarding geothermal and has been chosen for collaboration in the scope of Horizon 2020 in the past year, and it has captured the attention of global actors in the sector with this characteristic. In this context, Zorlu Enerji engineers started receiving consulting requests for different projects. Zorlu Enerji has almost become a reference in the sector and is contributing to the international image of Turkey.
